Nine Technology’s executive leadership team is made up of seasoned data storage professionals who have spent their entire careers developing, selling and supporting data storage, backup and recovery solutions to global enterprises, government agencies and service providers throughout the world.

Nine Technology was founded with software that has been actively under development for the past 3 years. The specification for this revolutionary software technology was based on the vision of offering new revolutionary architecture to meet the growing demand of online backup & recovery while eliminating the issues associated with other online backup technology and traditional tape based solutions.

Tom Gelson, Founder, Chairman

Tom is a serial entrepreneur with a track record of success in the data backup and recovery field.

Tom's career and entrepreneurial spirit have evolved with the technology leading up to the launch of Nine Technology, his fourth successful venture in the data storage industry. Previously, Tom founded Vault USA, a successful backup and recovery managed service provider that was acquired by NextVault, Inc on April 29, 2010.

Tom started his career in the data storage industry at EMC. He became Director of Sales and Support for Acknowledge, Inc., the first third-party manufactured, unattended tape backup drive company for IBM midrange and mainframe systems.

He then founded More Solutions, his first data storage company, which merged in 2001 with virtual tape storage software company Neartek, Inc. In 2004, he founded More Group Inc. as an employee owned and operated company led by a seasoned enterprise storage executive team that had worked with him at More Solutions. The More Group was a leading enterprise storage management integrator offering turnkey solutions and professional services. In 2008, More Group was acquired by Forsythe Solutions Group Inc.

Tom graduated from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.  He also served for 5 years in the United States Coast Guard at search & rescue stations on the NJ coast and Governor's Island, NY.

gene fay

Gene Fay, President

Gene Fay is president of Nine Technology with responsibilities that span sales, marketing, business development and partner relationships.

Previously, Gene was the vice president of sales and business development for VKernel, a startup virtualization management vendor, where he grew sales 300%. Prior to joining VKernel, he was vice president of worldwide sales and global alliances for the security information and event management (SIEM) business unit of RSA, the security division of EMC. channel chief 2011He joined EMC after the company acquired Network Intelligence where he was vice president of business development. In that position, Gene provided the sales leadership and grew the EMC SIEM business by over 40 percent in 2007 after the acquisition. Gene spent more than seven years with EMC and also held other management positions with Avid Sports (founder), and Avid Technology.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University. Gene also graduated magna cum laude with a High Tech MBA degree from Northeastern as class president.

In February 2011, Gene was named to Everything Channel's CRN's Channel Chiefs list for his commitment to the managed services market.

Tom Trometer, Chief Financial Officer

Tom is responsible for the financial management of Nine Technology's operations. In this role he provides oversight for the financial management of the business, directs the corporate treasury function, establishes the protocols and standards for internal reporting and assists in building the business model and plan for the company. He has over 25 years experience, and was previously VP Finance and CFO of CableSoft, where he was instrumental in raising capital and selling the company to Motorola. Trometer was also VP of Finance and Treasurer of Opta Food Ingredients, a public company, and was instrumental in raising over $40M in equity funds. He was also a manager in the Middle Market and Growing Companies Division of Price Waterhouse Coopers.

He is a CPA and is a graduate of Canisius College.
