Keep it simple, stupid

I don’t even remember where I first heard that line. It’s used in conjunction with all manner of things now: sports strategy, political maneuvering, even news gathering. It’s also what we had in mind when we redesigned our signup process toward the end of 2011. We’d gotten some feedback that the steps weren’t as intuitive as we hoped, so we tried to tweak them.

Here’s what they looked like before:

online backup signup one

online backup signup two

online backup signup three

As you can see, there’s the potential for confusion. We didn’t do a good enough job at describing what an account manager was actually in charge of, and we didn’t do a good enough job at separating the ONE and PRO signup options.

So here’s what we’ve redesigned them to look like:

online backup signup four

online backup signup five

online backup signup six

Much cleaner, much more visual, and much more navigable for a new customer looking to sign up quickly. And don’t forget, all of these screens have your logo on them, enhancing your brand throughout the process.

Keep it simple, stupid. Yeah, okay, we get it.
